Confirming the situation, Shariful Islam, the public relations officer (PRO) at the BGB headquarters, stated that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) had apprehended them and confiscated their weapons.
In the latest update of the ongoing conflict with Arakan Army insurgents in Myanmar’s Rakhine State, forty-six additional members of Myanmar’s Border Guard Police (BGP) and military have sought refuge in Teknaf, Cox’s Bazar.
Confirming the situation, Shariful Islam, the public relations officer (PRO) at the BGB headquarters, stated that the Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) had apprehended them and confiscated their weapons. Currently, they are being housed at the 11 BGB headquarters in Naikhongchhari.
Although exact figures for each force remain undisclosed, Islam revealed that the total number of Myanmar personnel now under the custody of 11 BGB at Naikhongchhari headquarters has risen to 260.
This recent influx follows previous instances of Myanmar personnel crossing the border seeking safety. On March 30th, three Myanmar Army members took refuge through the Naikhongchhari border, while on March 11th, 177 individuals from the Border Guard Police (BGP) and army sought shelter.
Prior to these incidents, a total of 330 individuals from Myanmar had fled to Bangladesh in multiple waves. However, on February 15th, 330 people were repatriated back to Myanmar, marking a fluctuating situation amidst the ongoing conflict.
